Bits in the Mouths of Horses

11″x14″ original graphite and white colored pencil on toned paper

Inspired by the Bible passage James 3:3-12, "Bits in the Mouths of Horses" depicts a beautiful, engraved, silver vaquero style spade bit, in the mouth of a working ranch horse. This traditional bridle set up also includes a braided rawhide bosal and mecate horsehair reins.

Note from Amanda- While I am not personally familiar with working with this type of bridle set up, I have always admired the skilled craftsmanship it takes to create these beautiful pieces of tack as well as the horsemanship it takes to use them.
